Robyn Regehr 1998 NHL Entry DraftThe Colorado Avalanche originally drafted Robyn Regehr during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft (19th overall). That was the same year the Calgary Flames drafted Rico Fata (6th overall) & Vinny Lecavalier was the 1st overall pick by Tampa Bay Lightning.

In 1999, approaching the trade deadline the Colorado Avalanche were looking to ad a veteran sniper to their roster for a serious run at the Stanley Cup. The Avs had some bargaining chips thanks to their stockpile of young talent; including four 1st round prospects drafted  in 1998.

The Avs finally decided on Theoren Fleury of the Calgary Flames and on February 28, 1999 the Calgary Flames & Colorado Avalanche completed a deal sending Theoren Fleury & Chris Dingman to the Avs in exchange for Robyn Regehr, Rene Corbet, Wade Belak, & 2nd Round Draft Pick in 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

In 1999 Robyn was involved in a horrific car accident that left Robyn with two fractured legs. His extraordinary speedy recover was made even more amazing when he cracked the Flames line-up and ended up playing 57 games during the 1999-2000 NHL season.

His ability to overcome hardship & perseverance would help pave the way to solidify Robyn's image as an NHL defenseman.

On June 25th, 2011 the Calgary Flames traded Robyn Regehr to the Buffalo Sabres along with Ales Kotalik and a 2nd round draft pick in 2012 for Chris Butler & Paul Byron.
